It's Thawing Out!

Finally! The weather forecast is showing temperatures in the high 30's and 40's for the foreseeable future. Yesterday, the high temperature was 52 whopping degrees and the sun was high in the sky! Whoohoo! I stood out on the deck, toasting the glowing orb with a nice glass of Merlot and soaked in the Vitamin D. I deliberately ignored the snow still on the ground. The birds were chirping, the squirrels were mincing about and all was right with the world.

However, we are still planning on heading south next January to visit with the kids and grandkids, and maybe miss a bit of the inevitable bad weather of winter. With that in mind, we purchased a nice traveling kitty condo for the boys.

And what a deal we got! This same item sold for $119.00 at Petco. We just happened to be at Ocean State Job Lots last week and found it for $29! Oh, how I love a deal.

Now, if the boys will just agree to enjoy their trip south with us. We've had the condo set up in the living room for a week so they could get accustomed to it. Even threw in a few of Spike's favorite treat of boiled shrimp, however, I think they still remain dubious.

Last night, the boys were entertained by Big Booda, the raccoon who was helping himself to the bird feeder.

I've been frantically knitting, trying to finish most of my UFO's (unfinished objects) and finally put the last touches on my cotton sweater.....

I also finished another market bag for a special person who likes to frequent Friday Green Markets. It should be on it's way in tomorrow's mail!

Last, but not least, we found this cute little guacamole kit at the Bangor Air National Guard Base Commissary. It has all the necessary ingredients; avocados, tomatoes, onion, garlic, jalapeno and lime. All that for only $2.17! I'd show a picture of the resulting guacamole, but we ate it before I remembered the camera. DEELISHUS!

And now, I hate to run, but the sun is shining again! YAY!!!

Life is really, really, good.

Hugs, Giddy

Good idea to go south for some of the sunshine as I did here in the southwest!
The carrier looks great..I also had mine in the living room getting the cats to familiarize themselves w/ it. I travelled by car for 5 days to get here ..are you travelling by air or car? My cats did just fine..we stayed in pet friendly hotels along the way and they were fine..we stopped a few times to check on them.
Happy Trails to all of you!purr..Zzz NG

your boys are beautiful. My cats have crossed the country twice now and did fine. I did use a bit of cat happy pills on the first day of the first time but it wasn't really needed. They actually did not spend much time in the crate except to transport them into the hotel. They do not like the crates and yeowl but will settle down and sleep if allowed to bed down on the floor or back seat.

Looks like we are finally getting some serious melting going on. It's been another LONG winter. We leave for Florida tomorrow. Check my blog - I hope to blog my way down and back so at least you can see some sunshine :-). Great guacamole kit that you found at the commissary. I try to shop there a couple of times a month. Raccoons are hanging around here too and I smelled a skunk today. Spring is almost here!!

What a great deal you got on the kitty condo.

Is that pattern the February lady sweater? I just printed out that pattern and am going out hunting for the perfect yarn next week.

Naturegirl, we will be traveling by car and it should take about 3 days to get to our destination. We are looking up pet friendly hotels now so we can figure out our stops.

Onedia, we are trying to figure out a way to let them wander in the back of the jeep so they won't be confined to the kitty condo.

GLbuzz, I'm looking forward to reading all about your adventures down south!

Crafty, you're right, it's the February Lady Sweater! It was super easy and I've gotten lots of great comments on it. The photo doesn't do it justice as the color is really a beautiful berry red. I'm looking forward to seeing what yarn you pick out for it.

The 8th was a great day even if I had to spend 8 hours in the truck. I at least got the chance to drive with the heater off and my window rolled down. When I arrived in Long Island it was over 60 F.

The snow at home has vanished and all that's left in the woods is ice in the wet spots. I'm looking at a mess of a yard but it's still better than snow even if it means I have work to do.

Isn't it wonderful to finally be getting some spring-like weather? I've actually managed to spend a couple of hours doing clean-up in the garden. Many hours to go, but it's a start..and it sure felt good to breathe the soft, spring air.
You got a great deal on the cat carrier! I hope the boys will take to it. Once you explain to them how wonderful Fl will be I'm sure they'll be fine with the idea :)
We had a racoon pull down a suet cage on Tuesday night. Pesky critters.
I love your pretty sweater. Great job.
Can't beat the price of that guacamole. You had a lucky shopping week!
Did you see any leprechauns visiting your garden gnomes on Tuesday? ;)
